Germinate: Perth High Schools Environmental Justice Conference
September 27, 2009
Germinate will now be held on Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd of November.
Germinate is inviting high school students, TAFE students and other young people from the ages of 13 – 19 to participate in the 2009 Germinate Perth High Schools Environmental Justice Conference, which is FREE and will be held on Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd of November.
This is the first conference of its kind in Perth, and will involve a day of workshops in at City West Lotteries House on the Saturday, followed by a trip to Jarrahdale on the Sunday, to experience the Jarrah forest and be shown around by local community members campaigning against destructive logging and forestry practices.
Germinate aims to empower young people who are interested in Environmental Justice issues so they can raise awareness and catalyse change in their local communities. The conference gives students an opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and creative ideas necessary to draw attention to, and act on, the issues they feel passionate about. It will provide an opportunity for students to make a difference, by working towards an active high schools environment network in Western Australia.
Germinate organisers acknowledge the Nyoongar Peoples, who are the Traditional Custodians of this Land. We would like to pay respect to the Elders, both past and present, of the Nyoongar Nation and to acknowledge that Aboriginal Sovereignty has never been ceded.
Please see the About page for more info, or contact one of the friendly organisers at germinateperth@gmail.com.
Germinate is made possible by the funding of the Department for Communities, Office for Youth.
